Preparation for Tying Rebar:

Ensure:

  1. All protruding rebars are capped
  2. Correct rebar-cap for the size of the bar
  3. Rebar-caps fitted in accordance with the supplier's instructions
  4. Condition of the rebar-caps checked regularly for deterioration/damage
  5. Regular checks that the rebar-caps are still in place and correctly fitted

Tying Rebar Risk Assessment Notes

Assess intended work site. Ensure:

  • Adequate lighting
  • Suitable weather conditions
  • Traffic management controls are in place where required
  • Location is not in close proximity to other hazardous works (hot works, excavating, work undertaken overhead etc)
  • Location of work is not directly above/adjacent to exposed rebar (even when capped) where persons could be impaled
  • Fall risks are mitigated (barriers etc).
