Inspect roof. Ensure safe for work. Check:

  • Certification from structural engineer (if possible)
  • Rafters braced adequately
  • Creeper rafters secured
  • Valley irons supported
  • Truss and Batten erection:
    • Where no internal fall protection provided:
      • Truss spacing must not exceed 600mm centres
      • Batten spacing must not exceed 900mm centres
      • Where truss spacing is more than 600mm but less that 900mm, batten space must not exceed 450mm centres.
      • If truss exceeds 900mm and batten spacing exceeds 450mm then suitable fall protection MUST be provided.
  • Condition of trusses, rafters, purlins and roof battens
  • Presence of cement sheeting
  • Brittle roof surface, asbestos, skylights or other hazards
  • Check strength of installed safety mesh. Check:
    • Corrosion
    • Fixed correctly
