Forklift Safety Notes
Before Commencing Forklift Work:
Day Operations:
Safety footwear, high visibility shirt or vest, sun protection if required (broad brim hat, sun screen, tinted safety glasses).
Night Operations:
Safety footwear, safety vest or shirt suitable for night work (i.e. with reflective strips).

Forklift General Safety
- Seatbelt to be worn at all times.
- Operate smoothly.
- Travel slowly when turning.
- Don’t turn on inclines.
- Ensure that there is enough room for the tail to swing around.
- Travel with load close to the ground.
- Keep clear of upright mast and carriage lift chains.
If a warning light comes on STOP the forklift truck IMMEDIATELY and seek assistance to rectify.

Forklift Operators should:
- Have a current certificate to operate forklift (load shifting equipment).
- Be trained or under instruction by an authorised person.
- Be shown the forklft log book.
- Be familiar with the manufacturer’s operational guide/owners manual.
- Have an understanding of start up/shut down procedure.
