The Carpet Tiles Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive 13 page procedure. This SWMS covers installation of carpet tiles in new and existing premises. Preparation:
Inspect work area. Ensure:
- No tripping hazards
- Clear of hazardous works in close proximity – especially hot works (grinding, welding etc)
- Sufficient lighting
- Adequate ventilation (use mechanical extraction if required)
- Clear of non-essential persons (barricades and signage in place as required)
- Clear of ignition sources if adhesive flammable
Note: Ignition sources include pilot lights, stoves, heaters, cigarettes, matches/lighters, grinding, welding, power points, lighting, light switches, radio transmitters, mobile phones, battery powered forklifts etc.
Storing Adhesive:
- Ensure packages are stored within manufacturer's recommendations
- Polyethylene container (as provided by manufacturer)
- Ensure adequate spill containment is provided (eg bunded pallets for packages if required)
- Store in a cool, well ventilated area
- Store away from ignition sources
- Store clear of incompatibles and food stuffs
- Check containers regularly for leaks
Ensure spill containment kit available at site. Include:
- Impervious gloves and safety goggles
- Trowel, scraper and access to plenty of water
