The Core Drilling Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) is a comprehensive 6
page procedure.
The Core Drilling procedure is ready to use and is not a blank template.
Simply add your company details, ABN, and include any site specific
details or risks and make it specific to the task at hand. It is then
ready for printing and to be incorporated as part of your overall OHS
System.
The Core Drilling procedure can be used as part of your OHS inductions,
for Tool box talks or tender applications.
Hazards Associated with Drilling
Dust created by cutting has the potential to cause harm to health
through respiratory exposure. Dust generated during drilling activities
could contain crystalline silica which can lead to silicosis. It is
critical that dust suppression (use of water / coolant) or dust
extraction principles are implemented to avoid the inhalation of silica
dust. It is recommended that respirators also be used where there is
still a risk of inhalation. Care must be taken to protect other persons
who may be exposed to any dust within the vicinity.
Working with electrical equipment and water requires vigilance in the
integrity of equipment and safe set up of the work area.
Serious injury can be sustained with improper use of Core Drilling
Units. Competent operators and strict adherence to safe work procedure
is critical.
