Work Method Statements
Work Method Statement Purpose
The Purpose of a Work Method Statement is to give employees and contractors a precise guide for how to operate plant and equipment safely. Part of any OHS System includes Work Method Statements for any equipment that is used by workers.
Does this include contractors? Yes, no longer can you sign away responsibilities by employing contractors instead of employees. You are responsible for anyone performing work for your company. If you are the principle contractor then your workplace OHS repsonsilities extend to anyone who comes onto the worksite or enters your workplace.
What can happen if I do not have a Work Method Statement for the plant or equipment on site? If you require employees or contractors to use equipment and you have not clearly instructed them on how to use it safely, you may be found to be negligent if that worker or anyone else was injured from improper use of the equipment. This could lead to interruption of work, prosecutions, fines and more.
More often contractors now have to provide their own OHS System when tendering for work. This used to be only expected of larger contractors, but nowadays even a lawn mowing company needs a OHS System to be allowed on a shopping centre site. By having our own OHS System and Work Method Statements, you are demonstrating that you have considered the risks associated with your work and that you have taken safe measures to prevent injuries and accidents.
Every week Contractors are being locked out of job sites because they do not have their Work Method Statements in place. Now you can purchase WMS's online from just $79.95 ex GST.
